Attic conversion in Lyon

Objective

To optimize the space under sloping ceiling and get as much brightness as possible.

Creation

June 2013

Material

Lacquered fibreboards (MDF) and tempered glass.

The brief of the clients was to optimize the space under the sloping ceiling of their apartment attic in Lyon. We created a smooth flowing layout with easy access between the adjacent rooms (living room and office). Accommodation of guest has been considered by integrating a guest bed into the built lounge. In response to the clients request for more storage ingenious use of inbuilt furniture (bookshelf fronted drawers conceal ample storage) affords open plan living allowing maximum use of light and space. The novel horizontal balustrade window allows light to filter through to the ground floor entrance while simultaneously minimising the visual bulk of the balustrade in the attic space. The use of glass in the balustrade was used to satisfy regulatory security issues.
